Roulette

Graphical Movements by

For the last 7 years, I have been creating graphical movements with a Spirograph

set of tools in a choreographed, programmatic way.

In creating these movements, I experiment with ways to map inferences around the

conditions, patterns, cycles, and coordinates of where I may be sitting

(or where I see others may be sitting) in relation to one another

and in any number of narratives.

Several of the concepts I’ve identified during the process of making this work

indicate a relation to what has been a considerably long life of programming.

Everything from cultural programming, institutional, biological, parental, political,

religious, and most recently, self-programming has a storyline

in this body of work entitled, Roulettes.

A Roulette is a curve generated by a point on one curve as it is rolling on another curve.

I find that the roulette forms and patterns can be representative of the behaviors, thoughts,

and movements we exhibit in our daily lives. They can also represent the various components, frameworks, and structures that comprise the simplest to the most complex of systems.
